The share of wind energy projects in Brazil’s national electricity auctions is increasing rapidly, 5,175 MW are currently planned or in construction. The Brazilian wind energy market is therefore becoming more and more attractive. It must be kept in mind, however, that the regulatory framework for developing wind farms varies greatly from state to state. Profiles of the states counting the largest number of wind projects, Rio Grande do Norte (RN), Ceará (CE), Bahia (BA), Rio Grande do Sul (RS) and Santa Catarina (SC), are therefore a major asset of the study. The permitting guidelines contain all important facts and figures that are necessary fort he permitting process from project planning tot he operation of a wind energy plants. The guidelines were developed in cooperation with legal experts and lawyers specialized in renewable energy. In order to ensure validity, relevance and practical applicability dena conducted a survey with local authorities and companies operating in Brazil. The guidelines therefore provide comprehensive information on all the legal bases in the permitting process, main actors, duration and costs as well as tips and info boxes. Short summaries give a quick and easy to understand overview of each step of the permitting process.
