GAP joined opposition

On March 28, 2023 the motion of Members of the European Parliament’s ITRE Committee to object the Delegated Act on Art. 27 Renewable Energy Directive (REDII), which is meant to set out electricity sourcing criteria for the production of renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs), e.g. additionality, failed. With 41 votes rejecting the objection vs. 22 votes in favour, the entry into force now seems to be only a matter of time. This is a huge breakthrough for providing the necessary regulatory and investment certainty needed in order to get the powerfuels‘ market going. read more

GAP urges EU institutions

Today the Global Alliance Powerfuels published its detailed assessment of the Delegated Acts on renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs). The Alliance welcomes that in February 2023 the European Commission has eventually finalized its proposals of the Delegated Acts to define RFNBOs and calls on European Parliament and Council of the European Union to not further postpone the entry into force of the acts. Despite remaining flaws, they can provide the necessary regulatory and investment security needed. read more

The World Electrolysis Congress 2023, which took place from 14th of March until 16th of March in Düsseldorf, dove into the challenge of scaling up electrolyser technology to meet global de-mand. The event was organised by World Hydrogen Leaders and showcased presentations from over 100 speakers. The Global Alliance Powerfuels was an official partner of the event and Fried-erike Altgelt, Team Lead, Hydrogen Markets and Regulation at the German Energy Agency (dena), participated in a panel discussion on bankability and off-take of green hydrogen. read more

The World Hydrogen MENA Conference 2023, which took place from 27th of February until 2nd of March in Dubai, explored the potential of the MENA region for clean hydrogen production and export. Organised by World Hydrogen Leaders, the event brought together over 400 stakeholders from across the hydrogen ecosystem in order to facilitate the collaboration and innovation. GAP joins industry initiative

Being part of the FitFor55 package, the FuelEU Maritime Regulation will be key to support a fast and consequent decarbonisation of the maritime sector. In order to fulfill this promise, the regulation must introduce an ambitious GHG reduction pathway beyond the proposition of the European Parliament as well as a specific subquota for powerfuels – so called RFNBOs – of at least 2%. read more
